The Cattle Industry Funding Scheme (IFS) Management Committee has agreed, on behalf of the WA cattle industry, to make funds available for biosecurity-related research and innovation projects, including pilot studies, preliminary studies and proof of concept.
Grants of up to $50 000 per year are available through an open, competitive process. The maximum funding period is three years.
The Cattle IFS Biosecurity Research and Development Program will support biosecurity-related research and innovation projects that will benefit the Western Australian cattle industry by:
- improving cattle health
- increasing productivity
- increasing profitability
- helping develop sustainable industry practice
- promoting market success and/or
- enhancing industry capability.
Interested community, industry and producer groups; research, not-for-profit, government and other organisations; education institutions; and individuals are encouraged to apply.
Applicants are required to submit an expression of interest as a first step. This will be reviewed and shortlisted by a panel of industry and technical experts. Applicants of shortlisted proposals will then be asked to submit a full project proposal for consideration by the Industry Management Committee.
Details of current and past cattle R&D projects are available on the website.
Criteria for selection
To be considered, the applicants must demonstrate their capability, capacity, experience and commitment to deliver the project.
In addition the project must:
- address a biosecurity-related WA cattle industry issue
- be based on sound evidence and information
- be well-designed and technically achievable as a concept
- not duplicate work undertaken elsewhere; and
- represent value for WA cattle industry investment.
See the guidelines and criteria for the Biosecurity Research and Development Funding Program: Grants 2021 for details.
