Animal welfare act amendments progressing

Amendments to the Animal Welfare Act 2002 which will enable the implementation of national animal welfare standards for livestock have been introduced to State Parliament.

NLIS to be introduced for pigs

Australian state and territory governments are set to legislate the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) for pigs in 2018.

Sub clover red leaf syndrome reappears this season

Many paddocks have been affected by a subclover red leaf syndrome between Brookton and Esperance this season.

Sheep feeding to start earlier

Sheep producers are advised to monitor and condition score their sheep to help plan when to start supplementary feeding this summer.

Inspect livestock thoroughly before loading

The department’s Livestock Compliance Unit (LCU) is reminding producers to closely inspect livestock before transportation to ensure they are fit to load.
