The ORIA strategy 2024-34 and vision set the strategic direction that will guide agricultural development over the next 10 years.
The state is committed to the continued development of the Ord agricultural sector including the realisation of opportunities for land development, processing, supply chain and value add integration.
The ORIA currently spans 28,000 hectares of farmland, producing crops such as sandalwood, maize, cotton, melon, pumpkin, mango and other fruit and vegetables.
The vision of the ORIA strategy 2024-34 is to expand the area into a productive and environmentally responsible farming region of up to 50,000 hectares, backed by value-add processing to create jobs and economic prosperity.
Developed in consultation with key stakeholders across local industry, Traditional Owners, and community groups, the ORIA strategy provides direction for government to continue to work alongside and support industry and the community to achieve positive development outcomes.
It is expected that local industry will drive many of the outcomes sought, with government playing a critical enabling role in providing an environment conducive to development in line with economic, social and environmental objectives for the region.
