Northern Beef Futures

Establishing infrastructure investment priorities

A review of infrastructure to support the beef industry is underway

The Northern Beef Futures (NBF) project aims to encourage the northern WA beef industry to grow, increase productivity and target new markets.

In order for this growth and expansion to be sustainable, a detailed understanding of current and future infrastructure needs is important.

Consultants ACIL Allen have been engaged to conduct a review of required priority infrastructure to support the beef industry in the Pilbara and Kimberley regions.

Industry workshops to identify infrastructure constraints and projects that will improve the efficiency of the supply chain were held in Port Hedland, Broome and Perth in early September 2015.

As part of this review, all types of infrastructure including saleyards, ports, roads, energy, water and telecommunications were assessed including those that support the industry, but are located outside of the region such as the Muchea Livestock Centre, Wubin Truck Assembly Area and Fremantle Port.

Industry workshop findings will form the basis of broader public consultation that will be held in November 2015.  Further details will be announced in the near future.
