Agricultural technology, or agtech, is no longer the way of the future, it’s already here – and is improving primary producers’ economic prosperity, sustainability, efficiency, livelihoods and more.

The eConnect+ Project, the successor of the department’s eConnected Grainbelt Project, has several new initiatives including –

  • The upgrading of 168 of its Automated Weather Stations from 3G to 4G technology by June 2024.
  • A satellite technology trial, with Australian mobile carrier network company Pivotel, in the Great Southern region on a farm at Frankland River.

eConnect+’s biggest and arguably its most exciting initiative – is the recently named and announced Extrata Data Sharing Platform which was created and built in-house at the department by the eConnect+ developers’ team.

The pilot phase of the platform is expected to go live soon.

Early adopters are being sought, and Western Australian broadacre crop growers are the first user focus.

An upgraded version, along with more features and benefits, is expected later in the year.
