Crop Science and Grain Production team staff fall into 3 streams:
- Wheat - 10 staff based at Geraldton, Merredin, Katanning, and Esperance
- Barley and oats – 9 staff based at Northam and South Perth
- Broadleaf Crops – 10 staff based at Esperance, Northam, Katanning, Nash St, and Geraldton
Crop Science and Grain Production Research Priorities
- Provide contextual variety advice
- Understanding environmental drivers of crop performance in WA context
- Understanding comparative physiology of cereals as a guide to managing for specific environments
- Optimal development patterns for WA environments in wheat and barley
- Crop agronomy for early planting: Wheat, Barley, Canola
Priority Projects
- Enhancing frost tolerance and/or avoidance in wheat, barley and canola crops through in-season agronomic manipulation
- Matching Pulse crop designs to site and expected seasonal conditions to maximise yield and profit: a crop ecophyiology approach
- Reducing risks to canola establishment through an integrated understanding of genetics, management and environment
