The Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia has appointed a new officer to target agribusiness trade opportunities in the Middle East.
Mr Aziz Saba has recently joined the Western Australian Trade Office (WATO) in Dubai.
Department of Agriculture and Food Director General Rob Delane said the Middle East region was increasingly focused on food security, looking for high quality sustainable food suppliers from stable and reliable countries.
“The risks to local agriculture production coupled with an increase in population has brought focus on closing the food gap,” Mr Delane said.
“The Business Development Manager – Agribusiness position in the Western Australian Trade Office is a new position which aims to further tap into the region’s market opportunities in agribusiness.
“This includes commodities such as wheat, barley, stockfeed, meat and livestock, fresh produce, processed food, seafood and investment attraction.
“This role will provide additional support to the Western Australian Trade Office, working to identify and communicate new opportunities to WA exporters.”
Pankaj Savara, Commissioner of the Western Australian Trade Office, Middle East and Africa, said the new addition to the office was a sign of a more progressive strategy to pursue the region’s market opportunities for the Western Australian agribusiness industry.
“The WA office has achieved significant success over the past four years both in terms of developing a bilateral relationship in the highest level as well as positioning WA as a reliable quality supplier of agribusiness products, commodities and services,” Mr Savara said. “This position will help us consolidate this further.”
Mr Saba has a background in business management in the hospitality sector and recently accompanied a WA wheat growers’ mission to Saudi Arabia, Oman and UAE.
