Food lovers can now try the burger crowned ‘Western Australia’s best’ at last month’s WA Day celebrations.
The aptly-named ‘If you got beef then bring the ruckus’ burger features beef three ways – beef patty, home smoked pulled beef and crispy pastrami – with cold-smoked cheese topped with a stout-based barbecue sauce.
A creation of local foodie Angus Gallagher, the loaded burger is now on the Jus Burgers menu after winning the title of Best Burger in the West.
The competition was a joint initiative between the Department of Agriculture and Food’s Buy West Eat Best (BWEB) program, in liaison with Celebrate WA and Justin Bell from Jus Burgers.
Competitors were required to use ingredients farmed, grown or produced in Western Australia.
Mr Gallagher, also known as Gusface Grillah, said having his burger in store was one of his biggest achievements, as a great deal of work went into its creation.
“It also reflects the amazing quality of beef available in Western Australia,” he said.
The department’s Buy West Eat Best program manager Melissa Italiano said the competition had profiled the array of local produce Western Australia had to offer.
“What we saw during the competition was enthusiastic cooks combined with outstanding produce,” she said.
“Buy West Eat Best supports consumers and the local food industry with a food-specific brand to clearly identify Western Australian grown, farmed, fished and produced food products.”
The burger is available in the Subiaco and Leederville stores of Jus Burgers, which is a member of the Buy West Eat Best program.
Bell lent his burger prowess to the competition, mentoring the finalists and as a member of the grand final judging panel.
