My role in the department
Henry is a Senior Research Scientist within the Fruit and Perennial Crop program, where he works on assessing potential new horticultural crops in Western Australia. He is also the Commodity Proposal Developer for the Cooperative Research Centre for Future Food Systems; Program 3.
Through working with new crops, Henry saw the development of a quantified multi-criteria framework, rating potential new crops against set Australian and international parameters.
Currently Henry’s work centres around assessing potential nutritional and health differences between different production systems, whole-crop utilisation via the commercialisation of the production of flours and biologically active compounds from lower grade fruit and vegetables and horticultural waste, as well as wine provenance.
My background
Henry is originally from Namibia and migrated to Australia in 2001, with previous experience in biosecurity, natural resource management, grains and livestock industries.
Previously, Henry was involved in the assessment of the potential for renewable chemicals, health and nutritional benefits from Moringa and has researched applying growth enhancers extracted from Moringa leaf on wheat.
