The importance of pest and disease monitoring

Monitoring is key to minimising pest damage through timely action to avoid loss and maximise effectiveness at the right grapevine phenological stage. The below pest and disease calendars are a guide to when pests and diseases are likely to be present and impactful in WA vineyards. Critical for pest management is identifying the time pests are most likely to be present in a susceptible stage such as newly emerged nymphs or the start of a breeding cycle.

Not all of these diseases will occur in your vineyards.

This is a guide only. The status of each disease varies across grape growing regions - monitor to avoid unnecessary or poorly timed sprays. Check specific recommendations under the following table on disease spray options.

This information can also be found in the Viticulture spray guide – wine and table grapes. The 2017/18 edition is currently under review and the 2019/2020 guide is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
