Growers may need to reapply baits for slugs and snails
- Great Southern region
- Boyup Brook
Entomologist Svetlana Micic has been receiving reports of growers needing to reapply baits for snails in germinating canola crops in the Great Southern region, and for slugs in the Boyup Brook region.
Growers are reminded to check germinating crops, that have previously had a bait application, for slug and snail activity. If feeding damage is occurring and you can’t see any baits remaining on the ground, then consider reapplying baits.
To read about previous slug and snail activity this season, refer to the 2023 PestFacts WA Issue 2 article Slugs and snails have started to lay eggs and Issue 1 article Now is the time to bait snails.
The PestFacts WA team recently hosted a Managing snails in WA webinar. The webinar recording and PowerPoint slides can be viewed on DPIRD’s YouTube channel and About PestFacts WA webpage.
