Slow braised beef shin and fresh produce from the Peel region has featured in the prize winning dish created by media personality Mark Gibson as part of the 2017 Celebrity Signature Dish competition.
Competition was fierce at Elizabeth Quay as part of WA Day Festival celebrations, as four media, lifestyle and sporting personalities embarked on a 60-minute cook-off to each create a mouth-watering dish featuring Western Australian produce.
The winning dish was completed under the tutelage of chef Kenny McHardy.
Hosted by the Department of Agriculture and Food’s Buy West Eat Best food labelling program, the competition celebrates the diversity of regional produce.
Department Food Director Deborah Pett said each of the competitors and their partner chefs had taken to the competition with gusto to showcase the breadth and quality of food produced throughout the State.
The dishes included tender Barramundi wings from the Kimberley, succulent yabbie tails from the Swan Valley, rich braised beef shin from the Peel region and delicately-flavoured marron from the Southern Forests.
“The competition has once again highlighted the premium produce that regional Western Australia has to offer,” Ms Pett said.
“I commend the competitors, partner chefs and partner regions, and the WA Fishing Industry Council for supporting this event which shows off our State on a plate.”

The competition was judged by chef Dan Masters of Rockpool, food celebrity Anna Gare and restaurant critic Robert Broadfield.
The department’s Buy West Eat Best food labelling program is aimed at boosting opportunities for local food producers, manufacturers, retailers and restaurants. It enables shoppers to clearly identify food products which have been grown, farmed and fished in Western Australia.
More than 140 WA food producers, manufacturers, retailers and restaurants support the Buy West Eat Best program.
