The Swan Valley’s Sandalford restaurant has been recognised at the prestigious Gold Plate Awards for going above and beyond to showcase fresh, high-quality Western Australian produce.

The inaugural Buy West Eat Best ‘Fresh Produce Award’, announced at the Catering Institute of Australia (WA)’s 52nd annual Gold Plate event in Perth, acknowledged Sandalford as the venue that best features Western Australian produce on its menus.

The award, supported by the State Government’s Buy West Eat Best program, recognises the restaurant that most clearly conveys to diners the provenance of fresh Western Australian produce.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s Director of Food and Trade Industry Development Deborah Pett said the award acknowledges a local food venue that champions fresh, seasonal ingredients from across the State.

“The Fresh Produce Award was open to all Gold Plate finalists and judged in the lead-up to the gala event, where excellence in the food service and hospitality industry throughout Western Australia was recognised,” Ms Pett said.

“The Buy West program partnered with Gold Plate Awards to highlight the vital role restaurants and chefs play in choosing fresh, high-quality produce and informing customers about the provenance of local ingredients in their menus.”

Other category finalists included Clarke’s of North Beach, Bistro Bellavista and C Restaurant.

Buy West expanded in 2016 to include food venues and supports local food enterprises across the supply chain, including producers, processors, retailers and restaurants, creating increased industry growth opportunities.

The Gold Plate Awards is a high-profile hospitality industry program held by The Catering Institute of Australia since 1967 to reward excellence.

The Fresh Produce Award provides an opportunity to recognise the food service and hospitality sector, which is a critical component of Western Australia’s food industry and a growing membership base for the Buy West Eat Best program.
