The 2012-13 annual reports for the three Biosecurity Industry Funding Schemes in Western Australia are available to download from the Biosecurity WA website.

Biosecurity Industry Funding Scheme executive officer Rebecca Heath said the reports outlined the operations of each scheme and the activities of their committees over the past financial year.

“Funding Schemes for Cattle, Grains/Seeds/Hay, and Sheep/Goats, came into effect in 2010 to enable industry to address biosecurity threats relevant to the respective industries,” Ms Heath said.

“The schemes are set up to allow producers to self-manage the serious pests and diseases that threaten the viability and sustainability of their industries.

“Farmers are able to determine which pests and diseases to focus on and raise funds to address the priorities for their industry.”

On behalf of industry, each scheme is run by an industry management committee which is appointed by the Minister for Agriculture and Food Ken Baston.

The committees determine which pest and disease threats require action, how best to deal with the threats, and the contributions required from industry to tackle problems.

Annual reports for the three Biosecurity Industry Funding Schemes, and more information on them, is available on the Biosecurity WA website at biosecurity.wa.gov.au
