My role in the department

Dr Guthrie enables primary industry development through her research with DPIRD’s Systems Modelling branch, focusing on climate and weather of the South West Land Division. She is responsible for producing the monthly updates of the Statistical Seasonal Forecast (SSF), the monthly publication of the Seasonal Climate Outlook, monthly potential yield, soil water maps, rainfall to date decile maps and frost and heat maps. She also looks at future climate projections and how this may influence farming business in the WA grainbelt.

My background

Meredith commenced at DPIRD in 2003 and her first role was investigating the potential of decision support tools such as the potential yield calculator, flowering calculator and climate calculator. She has worked on a number of climate related joint projects with a number of state and national farming groups, CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology.

Projects

  • Meat and Livestock Australia funded project SheepLinks (Project Code 3701701): Climate adaptation to ensure a sustainable WA sheep industry (Nexus). This project looks at future climate projections in 2030 and 2050 on pasture production.
