My role in the department

Jeremy is a Research Scientist based in Esperance, working across multiple projects focusing on best practice agronomic management of wheat, barley and canola. He conducts research trials in the Esperance and Albany PortZzones to assist growers and advisors with strategies to maximise yield and quality while minimising risk across a range of environments. He regularly presents at research updates and field days.

My background

Jeremy completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Australia, majoring in Genetics and Zoology. Jeremy started with DPIRD in 2015 on the GRDC and DPIRD funded wheat and barley agronomy projects. Since 2019, he has worked across multiple projects focusing on improving the yield and quality of wheat, barley and canola across WA through utilisation of appropriate variety choice, sowing date, nutrition and other management. He has a particular interest in issues prevalent on the south coast of WA, including pre-harvest sprouting and barley head loss.

Projects

  • ‘Optimising high rainfall zone cropping for profit in the Western and Southern Regions’ (DAW1903-008RMX). A GRDC project led by DPIRD with collaborators CSIRO and FAR Australia.
  • ‘Hyper Yielding Crops’ (FAR2004-002SAX). A national GRDC project led by FAR Australia with numerous collaborators across Australia.
  • ‘LMA Project C – An improved model of Late Maturity alpha-Amylase (LMA) field risk in Australian wheat’ (UOQ2001-005RTX). A national GRDC project led by University of Queensland with numerous collaborators across Australia.
  • ‘WA Crop Sowing Guide’. A DPIRD funded project conducting research trials to support the publication of the annual WA Crop Sowing Guide.
