WA Organism List (WAOL)

Under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007, every organism except a human being has a legal status. This status determines whether a permit is required to import the organism into Western Australia, whether commodities (potential carriers) possibly infected with the organism need to satisfy any import conditions into Western Australia, and whether a person in charge of a place or thing is required to take any measures to control the organism.

The legal status of an organism is assigned either through a declaration made by the Minister, or in the absence of a declaration, the status automatically remains unlisted. Unlisted organisms may not be imported without an import permit.

The WA Organism List (WAOL) shows the declaration details of organisms that have been declared to be pests (including prohibited organisms) or permitted organisms. Search the WAOL by common or scientific (recommended) name to view these details for individual organisms.

Please note that fish diseases which are prohibited organisms or otherwise declared pests are not currently found on WAOL.
