UCI BlacklegCM - Blackleg upper canopy infection management app

UCI BlacklegCM is a tool designed to help growers and consultants with management decisions for canola upper canopy blackleg infections in Australia.

UCI BlacklegCM factors in grain price, input costs, yield benefits, seasonal conditions, crop circumstance and conditions, state, fungicide strategies and other diseases to give you the best case, worst case and most likely estimates of financial return from different management strategies. 

Research into genetic resistance information for blackleg upper canopy infection (UCI) is underway and is not currently available in UCI BlacklegCM. The app will be updated with this information when it becomes available.

UCI BlacklegCM does not account for all factors that can affect blackleg upper canopy infection (UCI), so information provided by this tool should not be considered to be tailored to the circumstances of any individual farm.

UCI BlacklegCM - Blackleg upper canopy infection management app

UCI BlacklegCM helps you to manage upper canopy infections of blackleg disease in canola crops in Australia. UCI BlacklegCM can be tuned to account for some of the major factors that relate to risk of yield loss due to UCI blackleg disease in your paddocks. UCI BlacklegCM draws on years of field trials and observations, as well as experimental data and expert knowledge from contributors throughout Australia to forecast the likely result and economic return of spraying for this problematic disease. 

UCI BlacklegCM takes account of costs, yield benefits, grain price and seasonal conditions to give you best case, worst case and most likely estimates of financial return from fungicide control. UCI BlacklegCM does not account for all factors that can affect UCI blackleg disease, so information provided by this tool should not be considered to be tailored to the circumstances of any individual farm. The App will be regularly updated to reflect new experimental results as the information becomes available.

UCI BlacklegCM is part of a suite of disease management tools developed the through the National Disease Modelling Project (DAW 2112-002) led by Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) and supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation. The tools have been developed to support industry in disease management decisions for Australian grain crops. UCI BlacklegCM has been designed to complement the BlacklegCM management app which aids in disease management decisions for blackleg crown canker infections. 

Who we are

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development works with primary industries to expand the value of the agriculture sector and to safeguard our agricultural resources from biological threats.

UCI BlacklegCM has been developed through the National Disease Modelling Project (DAW 2112-002). This initiative is supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation. Development and support has been provided by a collaboration of: Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Western Australia; and Marcroft Grains Pathology.

Important development work and contributions to supporting scientific information have been provided by: Steve Marcroft, Rebecca O’Leary, Anna Hepworth, Adam Sparks, Jean Galloway, Art Diggle, Fumie Horiuchi and Steve Collins. 

The application coding is by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
