Advanced bioenergy solutions have the potential to recover waste resources from primary production, reduce emissions in hard-to-abate sectors, and directly substitute for fossil fuels while complementing other low carbon technologies in a future renewable energy mix.

Bioenergy Opportunities

Four key areas are emerging as WA’s bioenergy opportunities, namely:

Work to date includes:

  • working with industry, peak industry bodies, energy providers, government agencies and project proponents across the entire value chain to support bioenergy industry development
  • providing education and advocacy to State regulatory bodies on advanced bioenergy solutions
  • supporting the development of a range of technical resources, links and tools
  • mapping of biomass resources through the Australian Biomass for Bioenergy Assessment (ABBA) Project
  • working with key State Government agencies to provide for the inclusion of biomethane as a natural gas equivalent in the National Gas Law review and,
  • developing a suite of Factsheets to demystify the bioenergy sector.
