Bioenergy Opportunities
Four key areas are emerging as WA’s bioenergy opportunities, namely:
- Advanced biofuels - renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel products for hard-to-abate transport applications.
- Renewable heat and renewable gases such as biogas and biomethane to support decarbonisation of hard-to-abate industrial heat applications and regional communities.
Work to date includes:
- working with industry, peak industry bodies, energy providers, government agencies and project proponents across the entire value chain to support bioenergy industry development
- providing education and advocacy to State regulatory bodies on advanced bioenergy solutions
- supporting the development of a range of technical resources, links and tools
- mapping of biomass resources through the Australian Biomass for Bioenergy Assessment (ABBA) Project
- working with key State Government agencies to provide for the inclusion of biomethane as a natural gas equivalent in the National Gas Law review and,
- developing a suite of Factsheets to demystify the bioenergy sector.
