Ethanol production and uses of by-products

Biofuel Homepage

Biofuel

Overview

Ethanol is an environmentally friendly sustainable substitute for mineral petrol or gasoline fuels. Given certain assumptions detailed in the report below, it is possible for ethanol production to be profitable in Western Australia with or without Government assistance.

Ethanol Production and Economics

Ethanol can be produced from grain starch (wheat, corn, etc.) or from sugars (sugar cane). This reports information on the cost of ethanol production from grain and uses for the by-product called distiller grains (DGS).

Ethanol By-products Overview

Distillers grains are produced as a co-product from ethanol production from grain. It is a non-animal based, high protein livestock feed supplement, produced from the distillation and dehydration process during ethanol production.
