Genetic Resource Centre for Temperate Pasture Legumes

Trifolium, Ornithopus, Biserrula and other species generally adapted to acid soils

This resource centre is part of an international network of centres with the role of germplasm acquisition and collection, characterisation, conservation and distribution.

Pasture improvement in southern Australia depends heavily on exotic legume species adapted to a Mediterranean climate. This resource centre has a valuable collection of exotic and some native germplasm resulting from many explorations by Australian scientists. Such a collection is essential for the successful development of improved cultivars of species for a range of environments and pasture systems.

Activities:

Germplasm exploration
Collection site/habitat database
Conservation of germplasm
Preliminary agronomic evaluation and morphological characterisation
