The Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA) has a long tradition of working in partnership with the clients in Africa, the Middle East and Asia to assist the development of quality agricultural industry support services.

As the lead government agency for a well-developed agricultural sector, the Department has a highly trained workforce with skills and expertise crucial to the sustainable development of food and fibre industries.

Since the 1970s, DAFWA has been putting together multi-disciplinary teams to undertake agricultural development projects in over 30 countries. In addition, a large number of individual officers have undertaken scientific and agricultural development consultancies overseas, with government agencies, international organisations and private consultancy firms. Our expertise is in rain fed cropping systems, minimum tillage, extensive and intensive animal production, plant and animal health, bio-security, natural resource management, land use planning, and participative rural community development.

Agwest International in the fieldDAFWA, through its overseas consulting arm - AGWEST International - will continue to operate in partnership with government agencies and organisations in Africa, the Middle East and Asia to provide project management, specialist technical and capacity building services and customised training packages.

AGWEST International draws upon expertise from within DAFWA as well as Western Australian universities, agribusiness, and other government agencies under collaborative arrangements.
