New biosecurity guide for Western Australia's horse industry

                            Horse Alert WA

The Western Australian horse industry in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Food has produced a biosecurity package for all horse owners, trainers and service providers.

Horse Alert WA provides a practical guide to effective biosecurity to help the racing, sporting and recreational sectors of the horse industry to prepare for, recognise and respond effectively to an emergency disease that affects horses.

The biosecurity package also helps the horse industry to fulfil its commitment under the recently signed Emergency Animal Disease Response Agreement (EADRA) to take reasonable steps to minimise the risk of entry and spread of an emergency horse disease.

At a function at Ascot on Thursday, 28 July, 2011 department Director General Rob Delane congratulated representatives from Racing and Wagering WA, the WA Horse Council, Equestrian WA and the department’s Livestock Biosecurity program on their work in developing the biosecurity guidelines and officially launched the package.

Copies of Horse Alert WA have been mailed to WA horse organisation members. Additional copies are available from the department and WA horse organisations or may be downloaded from the links below.
