Innovation in the WA public sector
Innovation in the public sector has been recognised by governments world-wide as imperative to meet the challenges of increasingly complex operating environments now and into the future.
The Western Australian State Government is committed to encouraging innovation at every level of its public service delivery to advance the economy, industry, community and enhance the environment.
Innovation has been identified in two key State Government reports:
Since the release of these reports, a number of innovation initiatives have been implemented to facilitate innovation both across the sector and within individual departments and agencies.
A Joint Innovation Initiative Group was formed, which is led by the Department of Agriculture and Food and consists of the departments of Premier and Cabinet, Commerce, Mines and Petroleum and Landgate.
The Group strives to develop the strategies, processes and tools needed to drive a coordinated, collaborative approach to building innovation throughout the WA public sector.
In 2012 the Group will seek to build on the foundations laid by its 2011 initiatives.
