Conference to help communities shape change

People involved in the business of extension, or facilitating change, are urged to register to attend a three-day conference in Busselton in November.

The Department of Agriculture and Food is a major supporter of the conference, hosted by the Australasia-Pacific Extension Network (APEN), a body for professionals in extension.

Conference convenor, department development officer Susie Murphy White, said the conference speakers included some of the most innovative professionals from around the globe.

Ms Murphy White said the theme of the conference was Shaping Change in Communities, and it was open to all professionals from all sectors.

?Participants will get to learn about some of the challenges and triumphs of people like Dr Rohan Nelson, who is working on the Federal Government?s climate change initiative,? Ms Murphy White said.

?Dr Kristin Davis will discuss international extension and draw on her experience working in Africa, while director of the Research Centre for Stronger Communities, and Professor Daniela Stehlik, will explore the changing nature of communities that have experienced dynamic environments.

?Anyone involved in working with people to make change will find this conference very challenging and a worthwhile investment.?

Several officers from the Department of Agriculture and Food will lead the concurrent sessions.

Two professional development workshops will also be held. One led by professional speaker Robert Plumb on Better Thinking: Greater Results, the other lead by trainer Andrew Huffer on Ten easy steps to grab your clients and hold onto them.
