Small landholders display at Balingup field day

                            Media release : 16th April 2009

Small landholders will be able to stock up on all the latest information from the Department of Agriculture and Food’s display at the Balingup Field Day on Saturday, 18 April.

Department officers will be on hand and there will be a range of displays, including brochures and other take home information.

Department Small Landholders Information Service development officer Nancye Gannaway said all the information had been tailored to the needs of small landholders.

“The team will have all the new Noteworthy brochures available, produced in partnership with Kondinin Group and Landmark,” Ms Gannaway said.

“The Noteworthy brochures cover everything from weed management to using chainsaws, building fences to growing pastures and everything in between.”

Biosecurity officers will also be available to talk about local issues, such as guarding against feral pigs and other feral animals, weeds and insect management.

Adrian Williams from the Blackwood Valley Small Landholders Group will join the department to talk about ‘knowing your soils’.

Visitors to the department’s display can also learn about upcoming workshops on pests, weeds and developing a fire plan, which will be held during May.

A small landholder Winter Workshop is also being held in July in Bridgetown, which will cover climate change, soil and water conservation, declining oil environment, biosecurity, future carbon accounting and fire management planning.
