Plant Disease Diagnostics
Hundreds of thousands of passengers arrive in Western Australia by air, train and cars every year. Items brought home as souvenirs or gifts, from overseas or other states, or sometimes forgotten in luggage or handbags, can carry insects and pests that could damage our agricultural industries. Sporting equipment, dirty footwear or camping gear can also bring in weed seeds and diseases.
There are strict biosecurity rules that travellers must follow when they arrive and travel around Western Australia to keep pests and diseases out of the State. For details of these conditions visit Quarantine WA web page.
Reporting pests and diseases
If you think you have found a pest or disease there are few things you can do:
- Check the identifying insect pests section to see if what you have found is an exotic invertebrate pest.
- Check the declared plants database to see if you have come across an unwanted weed.
- Check the Declared Animals List for exotic pest animals and birds
