Travelling into Western Australia
Whether you are visiting, moving or returning home to Western Australia, any quarantine risk items you are carrying must be placed in amnesty bins or declared for inspection as you enter the State, for the reasons explained on Quarantine WA’s Home page. It is important that you cooperate, to avoid being fined.
Remember, Quarantine WA is concerned with travellers from interstate only. You should consult the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) if you are entering Western Australia from overseas.
By road
Road checkpoints at Eucla and Kununurra operate 24 hours a day, while desert roads are subject to random mobile inspections. Amnesty bins are located 20 km east of Laverton and on the Tanami Road and Duncan Highway near Halls Creek.
By rail
Quarantine WA inspectors board the Indian Pacific train before it reaches Perth and inspectors with detector dogs check luggage and freight at Perth Rail Terminal.
By air
Inspectors meet most flights at Perth Domestic, Broome, Kununurra, Karratha and Kalgoorlie Airports. Inspectors with detector dogs check passengers, passenger luggage and air cargo at Perth Domestic Airport.
By sea
Sea freight containing personal effects is inspected also with a detector dog, and quarantine risk items are directed to Registered Premises to await inspection.
