Buy West, Eat Best is aimed at providing the Western Australian community with a clear identification of Western Australian food products. When you purchase a product displaying the Buy West, Eat Best logo, you will know that you are truly buying Western Australian food products.
What does the Buy West, Eat Best logo mean?
Western Australian companies that display the Buy West, Eat Best logo have to meet certain criteria, which ensures certain standards of local content and quality.
Companies must apply to the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia to use the logo, and they must meet all of the criteria before being registered.
For fresh products, such as fruit, vegetables, meat and seafood, the products must be grown, fished or farmed in Western Australia.
For processed food, such as sauces, yoghurts, cheese, wine etc, the main ingredient must be grown, fished or farmed in Western Australia and the product must be processed in Western Australia.
So, say that you purchased a beef and mushroom pie - the beef, mushrooms and the pastry must be from Western Australia but the salt and pepper flavouring could come from interstate. The pie must be made in Western Australia. This product is eligible for Buy West, Eat Best as the main ingredients are Western Australian.
Or say that you purchased some strawberry flavoured milk. As the main ingredient, the milk must be from Western Australia, but the strawberry flavouring could come from interstate. This product is eligible to display the Buy West, Eat Best logo.
Companies displaying the Buy West, Eat Best logo must also meet certain approved Food Safety and Quality Assurance criteria, which helps ensure that you can trust the products you purchase.
