Plant available soil moisture maps (April - June)
Climate Risks and Opportunities Project
The soil moisture maps are produced from April to June and show how much water is available to crops in the normal plant rooting zone (ie. 0.5 to 1.5m depth. - plant available soil moisture map).
It is based on values calculated at 188 real-time rainfall stations using the Stress INdex (STIN) model developed by Dr. David Stephens, Climate Risks and Opportunities Project, Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia. The STIN model uses the Ritchie 2-stage fallow evaporation model to calculate accumulated soil moisture.
The maps below are all in PDF format all approx 250 - 300 kb in size.
