                          Climate Risks and Opportunities Project (CROP)


                          The Department's Climate Risks and Opportunities Project conducts research and development in key areas of climate variability, climate change, crop yield forecasting, climate forecasting, weather monitoring and decision support systems to improve the adoption of profitable and sustainable farming systems to manage climate risks.

                          Season Conditions

                          • Growing Season Outlook
                            A monthly update of seasonal outlooks and regional growing conditions. Latest issue - Growing Season Outlook (11 June 2009).  GSO Fortnightly Update (30 June 2009).
                          • ENSO Technical Summary
                            A monthly update of El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) conditions.
                            • Latest issue - ENSO SUMMARY (June 2009). Learn about ENSO and how it affects rainfall in the south-west of Western Australia [234KB pdf]
                          • DAFWA's Experimental Analogue Years
                            Read about DAFWA's Experimental Analogue Years and learn how to use them
                          • Real-time and Historical Weather Data
                            Real time and historical weather data from DAFWA weather stations. Includes daily and monthly precipitation, soil temperatures, wind speed and direction. Radar and satellite images, cumulative rainfall graphs, average annual rainfall map from the Bureau of Meteorology and long term frost risk maps [Updated June 2008].
                          • Season Conditions Maps
                            Current rainfall maps are located within the Growing Season Outlook and the Seasonal Updates, plant available soil moisture maps [latest 1 June 2009], wheat yield forecast maps [Updated 2 November 2008] and frost watch maps.
