Livestock identification and brands

Livestock Brands - New Brand Applications

Brands in Western Australia consist of two letters and a number (0-9) in any order. The letter 'I' is not used. The first letter in the combination may be a lazy letter where the letter is tipped 90 degrees to the left or a circle inside the letter 'O'. Symbol brands are not issued for use in Western Australia.

When applying for a new Brand, you may nominate your first two preferences for a brand. If the brands requested are not available you will be allocated a brand as close as possible to your first choice.

Brands that are available for allocation can be viewed on The Department of Agriculture and Food's web site. You can access the Brand Register from the bottom of this page or go directly to www.agric.wa.gov.au/brands/index.asp

To Access the Listings:

Click on Search by Brand
In the 'Brand' field, enter the required letter combination (using the percentage sign as a wildcard) in the following format: %D%R% . This will bring up a list of all brands containing the letters D & R.
Click on Lookup

The Brands that have no details against them are available for issue. As the brand may be allocated before your application reaches us, please also nominate a second preference on the brand application.

Please note:

The query result displays the Brands in the Brand field as 4 characters. The first three always refer to the brand itself. Eg. AB10 refers to AB1. 9DR0 refers to 9DR. The final number in this display indicates whether there is a lazy letter in the brand and where it is located.

• 0 means there are no lazy letters. Eg: AB10 = AB1
• 1 means the letter in the first position is lazy. Eg: D7R1 = lazyD7R
• 2 means the letter in the second position is lazy. Eg: 6LW2 = 6lazyLW
