Prevention of Flystrike in Non Mulesed Sheep
The Australian wool industry has agreed to cease mulesing by December 2010. The future credibility of the Australian Merino industry requires that we achieve this target.
Producers need to work towards ceasing mulesing, however, work is continuing by the Department of Agriculture & Food WA, Australian Wool Innovation Ltd. and many other institutions and producers to determine the most appropriate and effective strategies to minimise breech strike in Merinos by this time.
DAFWA recognises that this is a serious issue and that undertaking to cease mulesing on it's own flocks from 2008 ensures that there are three full fly seasons to develop the best information and recommendations for flystrike management without mulesing prior to the 2010 deadline.
